My Dark Knight Response…

…Without even knowing me, you can tell that I’m a Batman fan…whether its my name being BATS, this blog being FLY WITH BATS, how hyped I was a coupla weeks ago on the site about the fact that The Dark Knight was coming, or the fact that I beat up bad guys from time to time to protect my city

I couldn’t tell you how many txt messages and emails I got asking me how I felt about the movie being such a big Batman fan……hell, even exgirlfriends have hit me up saying that w/ all of the Batman mess they couldn’t help but think about me…which isn’t blowing my head up…cuz it’s just a comic movie (it’s still funny though, last laugh goes to MEEEE mhahaha ha

...but, all jokes aside, honestly, I don’t even think I can say that about this movie…calling it “just a comic” movie may be like many of the reviewers say, one of the biggest understatements given to any movie in the past 10-15 years….

I can’t even bring myself to write a real review of it, I’ve seen it twice…even wore my Batman mask, belt buckle, and Batman chucks to the midnite showing (sue me Ima a comic geek, i just happen to have swag)...

and I could talk about how bad of a muthafucka Batman is in the movie from breaking niggas guns with his hands to breaking niggas legs with the ground…and how effortless Christian Bale also switches from Bruce Wayne the hero and Bruce Wayne’s arrogant “I get the bitches” side (Bale is the next to blow in Hollywood,he fully commits to EVERYTHING he does)…or how Aaron Eckhart RIPS his portrayal of the character Harvey Dent(and the other guy he plays) becoming the backbone of the entire movie’s story….And how Gary Oldman, who plays Commissioner Gordon, is quietly and slickly the most powerful and most real person as the ‘hero w/o the mask’ but will most likely be overlooked by the masses(with Eckhart and Bale) due to the ‘unstoppable force’ Heath Ledger’s Joker is

Really, jumping on the Heath Ledger bandwagon is damn near unavoidable, due to how surreal he plays the Joker (the one character to win Best Comic Villian every year), all the critics have been saying he fully transforms into the character, and this is damn true, I really forget it’s Heath Ledger playing a part, it looks like they just found some real, psycho dude named The Joker, let him loose and told him the Batman was real all the while filming his ass…as soon as he does his “pencil trick” you’re instantly strapped in for the ride, realizing with every frame that you’re witnessing the baddest (and most uniquely vicious) villian to hit the screen in years…

probably the BADdest since…

And what makes him soo bad isn’t the fact that he kills a buncha people, double crosses folk or lies alot..but it because his perception, his philosophy and his reasoning for doing so goes far deeper then the usual “I want money” or “lets take over the world” bullshit you usually get from movie villians, you can almost find a ‘Twisted Inspiration’ that makes sense, even though it’s wrong as hell (and this empathy can be felt for both of the movies villians), you can feel him in a way that most people would be too guilty to admit…the character is addictively refreshing…and twistedly funny…

or maybe I’m just crazy too…

Heath Ledger far surpassed any expectations I had, and not to spoil the movie for anyone but there’s this line at the end of the movie The Joker says to Batman..“I swear, it seems like we’re destined to do this forever!”…the line is so cryptic when looking at the aftermath of Ledger’s death, unfortunately this will be the one and only time we’ll ever see this insanely awesome performance by an actor taken away in his prime (The filmmakers have also said that they won’t recast the character, no Joker for at least a decade)….and being an actor I’ve got to say that shit just motivated me watching him on screen, that’s what an actor is suppose to do…He may it hard to suspend my disbelief because it was as if he was bending reality(it sounds like overhype, but I’m tellin ya from someone studying to be an actor as well, that performance was no joke)

R.I.P HEATH LEDGER

This movie is more like a real crime drama that just happens to involve Batman characters, it delves into what would happen in real life if a nigga dressed up and started busting ass on his own terms? (in a REALLY fucked up city)…what are the true repercussions to doing something like this? People think of superheroes and think, “Whoa, cool, super powers, get famous and get sum yum yum”, not in this movie, they really explore the reality that a real “superhero” would face…whether its from criminals, politicians (criminals), businessmen, or your average citizen…what would be the honest reaction, if there is even one clear cut “honest reaction”….No, he doesn’t cry alla time like Spiderman, he isn’t a comedian like Iron Man(Ironman goes hard tho), doesn’t PMS like Hulk, or make things look as easy as Superman

(Sidebar: This is what I think of Superman

*RING RING *RING

Superman: Hello….

BATS: )

…Batman is just a man, and to take it out of the superhero realm and to look at it in realer terms, the movie also can be seen as the real ups and down of the life of anybody that wishes to lead or step up and change things, shit isn’t always going to be peaches and kryptonite cream while smoking some of Peter Parker’s Mary Jane…a man can rise and fall, and just because he’s a “superhero” doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to rise again…may not be the best mantra for kids, but that’s life…and a message not often seen in comic book movies…you don’t leave with that feeling people usually get when leaving this genre of film, that “I wish I was…” feeling, nope…it’s more like an entertaining “Don’t Try This at Home” video…. As much as I like the character, I can say after seeing this, I’m in no way jealous of Batman’s life no matter how much money he has (and that dude IS ballin) which is a powerful realization….you realize that he isn’t a superhero…like they say in the movie…“he’s something else”

“I don’t want to kill you! you complete me!” — The Joker to Batman (This is the true nature that defines their relationship, ANARCHY -vs- ORDER, YING -vs- YANG and the movie captures this to perfectlon)

The Reviewers are saying that this is The Departed for superhero movies, and some say this is the Godfather II for comic films…mannn to me, this is like Spike Lee’s Malcolm X for comic movies…and all of us are right…

Of course I’m bucked and proud that a character that I’ve been supporting for years is finally gettin attention, shit its like a fad for this past weekend to go see it….and I never in life thought that niggas would make going to go see a Batman movie, the “In thing to do” for the weekend…

…though its true, if we got thug niggas wearing tight pants, I guess getting saddity brauds to go see Batman shouldn’t be so surprising…

But seriously, I didn’t want to write a blog reviewing this movie (though I think I just did on accident), there’s enough reviews on RottenTomatoes.com (all of which give the movie a 5 out of 5 stars, and are calling for Oscar nominations) with enough professional folk deep throating the director Christopher Nolan(who hasn’t made a bad movie yet, check out The Prestige and Memento for proof) and his (along with his brother Jonah Nolan and David Goyer) crazily good script and intense movie to the point that I don’t have to give it any more props, because I wouldn’t be saying anything different than anyone else…so…all I can really tell you to do is

Go see that mafucka…

….Barack did….

….oh and be warned, its long as HELL….but the time flies…

Did I overly overhype this movie?

Prolly…but damn, what else would you expect from a nigga named BATS ona website called FLY WITH BATS….geez

shouts out to Batman-On-Film

…and Deebo…

As always, this was only my $0.02 towards life $0.98…

BATS, the ACE among kings…
